Periodontal treatment

Periodontal treatment

  1. The tooth surface gradually darkens with age, and even turns brownish
  2. Intrinsic: Hereditary factors or discoloration caused by medications such as tetracycline
  3. Extrinsic: Discoloration caused by sauce, tea, coffee, wine, pigments in diet, or smoking and/or chewing betel nuts
  4. These cases of discoloration can be managed with plasma whitening
For some prosthetic cases, tooth brushing and root planting is not enough to control inflammation. At the end of the first stage of treatment, medication is to be applied locally at periodontal pockets

Surgical treatment for periodontitis

Periodontal Surgery

For patients with periodontal pocket depth of > 5 mm, minor surgery is required for deep debridement of the pocket.
Following deep debridement, guided bone regeneration operation must be performed.
For structural defects of periodontic tissue, periodontic remodeling may be needed when necessary.
Laser is a supportive technology in periodontic treatment, and New Flower provides auxiliary treatment when necessary.

Post-operation maintenance

Maintenance

Periodontic operation is followed by maintenance period, during which clinic visits for examination and cleaning should be done once every 3~6 months.
The key of maintenance period is to enhance tooth hygienic training which is aimed to restore periodontal stability and facilitate post-operation observation. When the observation finds that some of the teeth are not yet restored to health, it is then confirmed that these teeth are beyond repair.
These teeth are to be extracted before reconstruction.

Rehabilitative treatment

Prosthodontic Restoration

Periodontitis usually leads to tooth loss, and the dentition with one or more losing teeth can lead to oral function impairment. It warrants medical attention
As the remaining teeth tend to tilt toward the spaces left by the lost teeth, causing occlusal plane disruption and vertical dimension loss. The tilted teeth take damage from incorrect force distribution, and occlusal plane disruption can develop into temporal mandibular disorder.
Dentition with function loss can be detrimental to health as it has serious impact on food intake, leading to malnutrition and diminished immunity. The spaces from teeth loss must be restored with denture or implant to re-establish chewing, pronunciation and aesthetics.
